Last week I had a trip to Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. Bhiwadi is known as –The Gateway of Rajasthan. I was driving my Grand i10 with my wife and kids. As soon as we left home it started raining. Rain was so heavy I couldn’t see the road clearly. Visibility dropped to less than 10 meters. In the city it was not so difficult to drive as the speed was slow but as soon as we hit the highway, rain got heavier. You cannot drive sideways as there water was heavily logged. In this rain looking through side mirrors and back mirror was out of question. Waters bouncing out from the tyres of front cars, buses and trucks were creating hazy atmosphere adding more misery to driving. Wife was constantly telling me to drive more cautiously and first time I was actually listening to her. My 2 year old son generally seat at front seat and play with dashboard but we decided to move him to back seat so that he couldn’t disturb me and I could rally focus on the drive.
When roadways are wet, the friction is reduced between the tyre and the road and so I had to adjust the speed again and again. Tyres were skidding and braking was not smooth. Driving through highway in the rain was very scary.
I left home at 1100 hrs and we reached Bhiwadi by 1400 hrs and that was just double the time it normally takes. My kids were really enjoying the rain and when they reached rain was stopped and they jumped out of car to enjoy the logged water and slides.
My eyes were in pain by then we reached looking through windshield on which two wipers were doing their work very hastily and seriously. But I forget every pain of journey looking my kids enjoying. No one likes the rain when he/she is in traffic but every one enjoys the beauty after rain had passed. One cannot ignore the beauty of nature and clear sky. Rain is clearly a great blessing of God.
Few lines from one of the famous poem:
How beautiful is the Rain!
After the Dust and heat,
In the broad and fiery street,
In the Narrow lane,
How beautiful is the rain!
I didn’t know the basics of driving in rain but that day I learn many of them by watching other drivers. As monsoon season is ongoing I thought to pen down some basics to let others know as well.
- Turn on wipers to clean the windshield.
- Slow down to give more friction to tyres and reduce the chances of skidding out.
- Stay focused and keeps away the entire disturbance.
- Turn your lights on and to make it easier for other drivers to see your car.
- Maintain lengthy gap between cars in front of you.
- Avoid slamming of brakes instead slow down the car by easing the accelerator.
Returning to trip we decided to visit one of the temple of Bhiwadi which is quite famous called Baba Mohan Ram Temple. It is also known as Khali Kholi Dhaam. Almost every person of Rajasthan and Haryana believes in magic of Baba Mohan Ram. It is very beautiful and quite place.
We were really mesmerized by scenic beauty of temple. It is a must visit. Overall we enjoyed the unforgettable journey.
